Obituary:

Janice Nees

Janice Marcella Nees, 67 of Decatur, IL (formerly of Greenup, IL) went to be with her heavenly Father after a courageous battle with cancer.  Janice passed away at 1:17am on October 22, 2007 at her home surrounded by her children.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday October 25, 2007 at the Toledo Christian Church.  Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Wednesday October 24th 2007 at the church.  Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery, Greenup, IL.  The Barkley Funeral Chapel, in Greenup, is assisting the family arrangements.

Janice was born September 3, 1940 in Grove Township in Jasper Co. IL, the daughter of Lester and Laura "Oma" (Price) Elliott.  She married Max L. James on May 31, 1958; he preceded her in death on February 20th, 1994.  Born to this union were three children: Brian (wife, Alisa), James of Charleston, Tammy (husband, Ronald), Shirley of Jewett and Robin (husband, Jeff) Schrock of Toledo. Janice was the proud grandma of 9 grandchildren: Cullen and Vanessa James, Erin Stancliff, Curtis, Brandon and Hope Walker, Lana, Leia and Levi Schrock.

Janice married Kenneth W. Nees on November 4th 1995; he preceded her in death on August 18, 2004.  Joining the family through this marriage were stepsons Philip (wife, Sherry) of East Galesburg, IL and Michael Nees of Knoxville, IL.  Janice was also blessed with five step grandchildren: Austin, Coty, Christopher, Jeffrey, and Shelby Nees.

Janice is also survived by a brother, Gary Elliott of St. Elmo; sisters, Evelyn Livingston and Luella Livingston of Toledo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and sister Dorsa Elliott.

Janice was a homemaker who took on various jobs around the farm.  She will always be remembered for her wonderful cooking, gardening and her quilting.  She attended First Christian Church of Decatur, but was a member of Toledo Christian Church for many years.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toledo Christian Church, Life Center of Cumberland Co. or Decatur Memorial Hospital Hospice.
