Simeon Ader contracted an illness while serving in the Union Army and was advised to go west. In the spring of 1884, the Ader family left Missouri on an immigrant railroad train headed for Boise, Idaho, where they were met by Hannah's brothers Newton and Frank Potter. They continued by wagons to Midvale, Idaho. Though ill, Simeon instructed family members how to selected the trees for building the first home and how to make shakes for roofing. He marked the trees to be cut for building furniture. The first Idaho home was a well-built log house with most of the furniture made under his instruction and supervision. Simeon Ader, a shoe maker by trade, made shoes and boots for the whole family. At age 39, he passed away leaving his wife Hannah with a large family to care for. Hannah became a midwife for valley women and worked as a nurse.
