"Ned" Bolling died of smallpox. William Byrd recorded his demise in his "secret diary" under the date March 14, 1710. Byrd wrote, "Captain Ned Bolling died of smallpox at sea..." Bolling was the captain of Col. Edward Hill's ship.

"March 14, 1710. ...I received a letter by Captain Posford from Mr. Bland by which I learned that my sloop was taken into Martinique. Captain Ned Bolling died of the smallpox at sea and so did Ch-s-t-r, both pretty young men." - William Byrd

Son of Col. Robert and Anne Stith Bolling.

"The mother of Edward Bolling was Ann STITH Bolling... this was confirmed by the Meriweather Society. Her son Drury married a Meriweather but her name was Stith..." - CLHileman
