On July 1, 1965, he retired and they moved to a farm southeast of Oneida, where he farmed and had a dairy for four years, also working as a nurse at the Sabetha Hospital. They moved to Goff in 1969. At the same time Don went to work for Goodyear in Topeka until 1980.

Donald was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, a former member of St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore and the American Legion of Goff.

He enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a card group that met every Tuesday night. He loved being a farmer and took pride in his crops and cattle.

He is survived by his son, Rick (Mary) Kramer of Ionia, Michigan; his two daughters, Nancy (Jim) Wecker of Holton and Debra (Michael) LeFevree of Red Oak, Iowa; a sister, Betty Boeding of Grandview, MO; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a close friend and a companion, Marclare Bell of Goff.
