Betty E. Raver

November 13, 1926 - December 6, 2017

York, Betty E. Raver, 91, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at Rest Haven, York. She was the wife of the late Donald S. Raver, to whom she was married 63 years.

Born November 13, 1926, in Dallastown and a long-time resident of Spry, Betty was the daughter of the late John A. and Bertha (Kreidler) Stump. The Victorian Villa of Dallastown was her home for the last decade.

Dedicated to lifelong learning, Betty graduated valedictorian of her Dallastown High School class and was editor of the newspaper. She earned her R.N. degree at York Hospital School of Nursing and was co-editor of the Lamplighter newsletter. Employed by the VNA and York Hospital, she retired from primary care nursing at Dallastown Family Medicine.

She was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Dallastown for over 50 years, serving as a teacher of the Reapers Sunday School Class. She was a member of the York Hospital Alumni Association, former board member of the Red Lion Area Senior Center, and member of the York Township Election Board for 25 years.

Betty enjoyed writing poetry, creating stories for her grandchildren, sketching, journaling, crafts, cooking, hiking, camping, and traveling to visit her children all over the states. In her later years, she took OLLI classes at Penn State York. Many people received her hand-made cards with words of wisdom and personal messages.

She is survived by her five children, David (Debra) of York; Dr. Mark (Leslie) of Camp Hill; Lucinda Gentiluomo of Reno, NV; Lee (Jennifer) of Carmel, IN; and Rebecca Rials (Tim) of Maryville, TN. Betty was grandmother to Kenton Raver, Caitlin Landsman (Michael), Gracie Raver, Emma Raver, Michael Gentiluomo, Dr. Jesse Gentiluomo (Dr. Helmi), Gina Gentiluomo, Jordan Raver, Erin Raver, Devyn Raver, and Hannah Rials; as well as great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren.

Predeceasing her were seven siblings, Pearl Paules, Velma Orwig, Palmer Stump, Jerald Richard Stump, James Stump, Fred Stump, and Delores Distefano.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty Raver's name may be sent to York Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, c/o Deborah Taylor, 7141 Hokes Road, Glen Rock, PA 17327, or to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main Street, Dallastown, PA 17313.

Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main Street, Dallastown, to be officiated by Rev. Roger Mentzer. A time to gather and share memories with the family will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Her final resting place will be in Yoe Cemetery. Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family expresses its deep gratitude to the staffs of the Victorian Villa, the York Hospital ICU, and Rest Haven Comfort Care Unit for their compassionate care given to our Mother in her final days. Let her Psalms 118:24 morning devotion be an inspiration for all: "This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it." www.eberlyfuneralhome.com
