John Wesley Savage was my grandpa and he was a hard working man. When Grandma and he first got married, Grandpa worked on the railroad and they lived in housing that the railroad provided for it's workers. Later on, he slaved in fields on other peoples farms every day while trying to support a wife and children. He went from farm work to the sanitation department. Back then garbage was put into 55 gallon drums, the sanitation worker had to pick up and carry the 55 gallon drum full of trash to a regular flat bed truck with sides and then empty its contents into the truck. This was very hard labor. My grandpa just about killed himself at this job in his later years. Grandpa died at the hospital of emphasymia with his wife, all his children and grandchildren by his side. He was a very loved man and returned that love to everyone he knew.
