Richard J. Gagas age 66, of Amherst Junction passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday morning after being stricken with a heart attack.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday October 10, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. Rev. Marcin Mankowski will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 Pm on Tuesday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. A general rosary will be prayed at 7:00 at the chapel. Visitation will also be from 10:00 – 10:45 AM at the church on Wednesday.
Richard was born June 25, 1946 in Stevens Point, the son of Walter and Florence (Gliniecki) Gagas. He graduated from Rosholt High School in 1964. He began working at Mengels and then Bake-Rite before owning and operating his own independent trucking company. He was a member of the Army National Guard from 1965-67. Richard married Charlotte Cudworth on November 5, 1966 in Custer, the couple divorced in 1990. He enjoyed outdoor activities including: hunting, fishing, cash crop farming along with watching NASCAR, boxing, and the Packers.
Richard is survived by his three children: Sandra (Jeffery) Studinski, Stevens Point; Brenda Gagas, Phoenix, AZ; Eric (Carla) Gagas, Custer. 2 grandchildren: Morgan and Jarred Studinski. His mother: Florence Gagas, Custer. 8 brother and sisters: Theresa (Ralph) Kostuch, Custer; Robert (Pat) Gagas, Custer; Dorothy (Henry) Flees, Amherst Jct.; Ronald (Sue) Gagas, Ralph (Marian) Gagas, Ervin (Sandi) Gagas, Marvin (Tammy) Gagas, Laverne Gagas all of Custer. Special friend: Jean Simonis, Amherst Jct. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Walter and his special friend Julia Cornwell.
