Don grew up in Brighton. After graduating from Brighton High School in 1967, he attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling for a semester before being drafted into the Marine Corps in 1969. He served for 2 years in Vietnam and received the Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal with Bronze Star and a Purple Heart and was discharged in 1970 as a Lance Corporal. After working with his father as a carpenter, he joined PRCA and traveled the rodeo circuit team roping for 2 years before coming back to build houses. He rode pens at many feedlots in the area and raised cows and farmed. He married Kimberly Blair in 1971 in Brighton. Don was a member of American Legion Post 180 in Keenesburg, Brighton VFW, Adams County Fair Board, West Adams County Soil Conversation, Prime Rib Club and Adams County Farm Bureau Board. He also received the Outstanding Adult Livestock Contributor award from Adams County 4-H. He enjoyed watching grandkids at their sporting events and livestock shows, loved being with his cows and a good horse, having coffee with anyone, watching rodeos and westerns and fishing. Survivors beside Kim included: daughter Keisha (Michael) Kornman of Hudson; son Joshua (Tiffany) Hirsch of Eaton; and grandchildren Jake and Jaelee Greiner, Lauren Kornman and Grace, Maggie, and William Hirsch. Funeral Services held November 6 at Zion Congregational Church. Tabor-Rice Funeral Home handled arrangements.
