Daughter of James Furman and Margaret Williamson Rowell Fowler, wife of Samuel Brice Woods.


MARION - Marion County native Sandra "Sandy" Belle Fowler Woods passed away on November 1, 2015, at the age of 71 years old after a prolonged and brave battle with Lupus. She died peacefully surrounded by her family in the tender care of McLeod Hospice House.


Born in Mullins, South Carolina, on November 7, 1943, Sandy was the daughter of Colonel James Furman Fowler (USAF, Ret.) and Margaret Rowell Fowler. Sandy married her Marion High School sweetheart Samuel Brice Woods on November 2, 1962, and they were one day shy of their 53rd wedding anniversary at the time of her death.


She is survived by her loving husband, Samuel Brice Woods, three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Catherine Woods) Mann, Mrs. Todd (Julia Woods) Morrison and Mrs. Jerry (Elizabeth Woods) Reaves; a brother, John Rowell Fowler; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. brother,


Sandy has joined her parents and brother, James Furman Fowler IV, in heaven.


A brilliant woman of many talents, Sandy received her undergraduate degree in Education from Winthrop College and her M.Ed and Ed.S from the University of South Carolina with a board certification in Counseling and Development. She taught high school English and was an award winning journalist for The Marion Star before opening a counseling practice. Always a woman with a giving heart called to touch the lives of others, she was an active member of community and church organizations in Marion and during her time in Kentucky, including volunteerism with the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Junior League, as well as leading the Children of the American Revolution and her church's children's choir. Upon retirement Sandy devoted her time to playing the organ at church. A generous woman of deep faith, her family finds comfort in knowing she passed on All Saints' Day.


Her funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church, Marion, SC. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 in the chapel, followed by burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
