William Hickman Boston Jr. was the only child of William Hickman Boston Sr. and Amelia ("Melia") A. Davis. His paternal grandparents were George W. Boston and Mahala (Sutherland) Boston, who moved from Kentucky to Carthage Township, Hancock County, Illinois, in 1836. He married Nancy Elizabeth Bryant, daughter of Peter and Lucretia Elizabeth (Wright) Bryant on November 24, 1867. They farmed in Hancock County, Illinois, raising a family of ten children. They are Marvin Edward, Joseph Hickman, Martha Ellen "Ella", Minnie Francis, Mary, Ethel, Charles Thomas, Jessie May, Ray Harold, and William.
William Hickman Boston Jr. served in Company H, 118th Infantry Regiment Illinois, during the Civil War. He enlisted on 15 Aug 1862 and received a disability discharge on 30 June 1863.

DEATH OF WILLIAM BOSTON
Again one of our old soldiers has answered death's call, being William H. Boston, who passed away at his home in the south part of the city Sunday evening at 10 a.m., aged 76 years. Mr. Boston has been in poor health for some years, yet able to be up and had been to the city quite recently, however for the past week he had been ill at his home. Mr. Boston, the son of Hickman and Melia (Davis) Boston, was born December 4, 1843, in Illinois, his father being a native of Kentucky and the other of Illinois. Mr. Boston has spent the greater portion of his life in this state, and in fact has been a resident of this city for more than thirty years. Prior to his removal to the city he was engaged in farming. Mr. Boston was one of our soldiers, having enlisted and served four years, but this service did not complete his record for his country as he had one son, Ray, who was called into service in the world war. He was a member of the G.A.R. of this city. He leaves surviving besides his wife, four sons and two daughters, Charles, of Missouri; Ray, Marvin, and Joseph of this city, and Mrs. Ella Burns and Mrs. Jessie Davis, also of this city. Funderal services were held from the home Tuesday at 3:00 o'clock p.m., Rev. L. E. Frazee of Bentley officiating. Burial at Moss Ridge cemetery.

William Hickman Boston, the son of Hickman and Amelia (Davis) Boston, was born in Carthage township, Carthage, Ill., Dec. 4, 1843, passed from this life, June 22, 1919, at 9:15 p.m. His father passed to the great beyond before he entered into this beautiful world, leaving him in the tender care of a loving mother, who also passed away when he was but nine years of age, thus leaving him to fight the battles of life alone when he was a child. In 1862 he enlisted in the 188th Reg., Ill. Inf., for three years, but only served one year on account of disability. On Nov. 24, 1857, he was united in marriage to Miss Nancy Elizabeth Bryant of this city. To this union ten children were born, four, William W., Mary E., Ethel and Minnie Frances, who have preceded him to the great beyond, and Marvin Edward, Joseph Hickman, Ray Harold, Mrs. Ella Barnes Mrs. Jessie Davis, all of this city, and Charles Thomas of Gorin, Mo. He leaves to mourn his departure besides his wife and children, twenty-five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of friends. He was a kind and affectionate father, bearing the burdens of life patiently until the end. The funeral was held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev., L. E. Frazee of Bentley officiating. The burial took place at Moss Ridge cemetery where the G.A.R. had charge of the service. Those who attended the funeral from out of town were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boston of Gorin, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. John Shipman and Mr. Lawrence Boston of Keokuk; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Langley and children of Denver, and Mr. and Mrs. James Parker of Middlecreek.
