He was born December 29, 1941 and was the son of the late Joseph and Mildred Coyne. He attended St. Cecelia's grade school and was a graduate of Exeter High School's class of 1961. He represented E.H.S. in the first EAST-WEST Mid-Valley All Star football team. He was also a West Side Conference football all star. He was a founding member of the Exeter Historical Society. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam era, as a reservist with active duty on the USS Franklin D Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier. He was a former Member of the Exeter Loins Club and current member of the Exeter American Legion Post 833. He retired from the former Techneglas plant in Pittston, and was the owner/operator of Coyne's Pool Service, for 33 years. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and being named after the Irish Patriot Robert Emmet.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Ishley Coyne of 44 years, sister Mary Catherine Coyne Wrubel of Exeter, children Lori Coyne Gallagher and husband Mike Gallagher, Jennifer Coyne and fiance Jim Gallagher, and Robert Coyne and wife Elizabeth Price Coyne who all reside in Wyoming; nine grandchildren, Michael Jr., Marissa, Amanda, Erica, James Jr., Giana, and Aliya Gallagher, and Katlyn and Kirsten Coyne; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held August 18 from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barbara's Parish at St. Cecelia's Church, Exeter. Interment St. John's Cemetery, Exeter. On-line condolences may be made at www.peterjadoniziofuneralhome.com.
