He was born in West Hamburg, Tilden Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania on March 11, 1923, the son of Milton Oliver and Katie Louisa (Rothermel).
He is survived by his wife Marion Audrey (Locke), two sons Wade Locke and Joseph Woodrow (Woody), four siblings Mildred Boyer, Roxanna Cupp, Thomas Reppert and Marshall Locke, and spouses. He was predeceased by eleven siblings Lester, Percival, Clayton, Earl, Lillie, William, Harry, Robert, Morris, Monroe, and Warren (Woody) and six half-siblings Minnie Shappell, Irwin (Erb), Vertie Schalk, Claude and Rosetta.
He worked most of his life as a machinist/mechanic/fabricator for various individuals and companies including Bethlehem Steel (Allentown, Pa.), International Harvester (Reading, Pa.), Wallace Green and General Marine (Seal Cove, Grand Manan).
In 1967 he opened his own business, Kuddle's Machine Shop, which he operated from his home in Castalia, until 1977 when he became maintenance foreman at H.B. Nickerson (Ingalls Head, Grand Manan). Subsequent to that factory's closure, he returned to work at General Marine for several years prior to his retirement.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the 219th Field Artillery Battalion, 35th Infantry Division of the US Army. He landed on the beaches of Normandy a few days after D-Day and participated in the Battle of St. Lo, the Battle of the Bulge and other campaigns until V-E Day, after which he served for a time in the Allied occupation at Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
He was a Deacon and for several years Chairman of the Mission Board of the now dissolved Zion Full Gospel Mission, Inc., Castalia.
Friends and acquaintances are welcome to pay their respects at Ells Funeral Home, Grand Harbour, NB.
