Mrs Laura Bates (nee McDill) was born 1875 in Burlinton, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. David McDill a widely known Burlington physician and Mary A Worrell. She died Saturday, Feb 5, 1950 age 75 in Gooding, Idaho.

Her husband, Elmer Ellsworth Bates born May 22, 1860 in Madison, OH, died Feb 18, 1930 and was buried in the Middle Ridge Cemetery, Madison Township, Ohio.

Elmer was a Cleveland sports writer; an original member of the Baseball Writers Association of America; a Cleveland correspondent for the Sporting Life as early as 1897. He wrote "The Little Old Man" column in the Cleveland Press.

Laura came to Cleveland, Ohio at the turn of the century and married Elmer E. Bates in 1907. She was identified with aid to the deaf in Cleveland For years.

She made her home in Idaho after Elmer died. For some years she was a teacher in the Idaho State School for the Deaf.

Laura's funeral and burial were Feb 7 1950 in Gooding, Idaho.
