Doris Earnestine Crawford Clark passed from this life on Friday, October 30 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA after a brief illness. She was born in Enterprise, LA on August 8, 1926 to Sullivan and Beatrice Crawford. She married D. H. (Dutch) Clark in 1944. She supported and frequently worked along side him in his work as a river boat captain and owner of a towing company. After his retirement they lived on Lake D’Arbonne until his death in 1992. She resided in Monroe after that time.

She was a wonderful wife and mother and the consummate caregiver, always fulfilling her calling to render round the clock care for sick and elderly friends and family, often taking them into her home. She lived for family. After raising her son, Dr. D. H. Clark, and daughter, Pamela Doris Jennings, she played a major role in raising her granddaughter, Jennifer Clark Richardson, while Jen’s parents completed their medical training. Jen lovingly called her “Dicey,”the name she came to be called by everyone. That loving bond has always been a special light in both of their lives. She was able to enjoy her great granddaughter, Caroline Clark Richardson, born two years ago, through frequent visits from Connecticut, face time sessions, and a bedroom wall filled with her pictures. She demonstrated her strong faith in serving New Ouachita Baptist Church for over 50 years and later at Northminster Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, S. P., Jr., Walton (Buddy), Elton (Shorty), and Eulon Crawford.

Dicey is survived by her children and their spouses, Dr. Hannah Clark and John Jennings, her granddaughter and her husband Charles Richardson and great-gran, Caroline, her brother, Albert M. “Arkie” Crawford and his wife Sue, and a host of nephews and nieces, who adored their Aunt Doris, as well as many close cousins and friends.

The family gives special thanks to Dr. Charles Morgan, the staff of Ridgecrest Community Care Center in West Monroe, and the staff of St. Francis Medical Center for their loving care of Dicey.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, November 2, at Kilpatrick’s Funeral Home on Lamy Lane in Monroe. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 3 at 10 AM, Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy and Rev. Wesley Pittman officiating. Burial will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Northminster Church in Monroe, New Ouachita Baptist Church in Enterprise, or the charity of choice.
