Beverly was born on Jan. 22, 1949 in Normal, the daughter of Ralph V. and S. Wilhemina “Willie” Shadewaldt Rich. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lyle Rich.
Surviving are her nephews, Karl (Magda) Rich and Erik (Tiffany) Rich; two great-nieces; one great-nephew; one sister-in-law, Mary Jane and her best friend of over 48 years, Bob Bye.
Beverly earned her bachelor's degree in math education from Illinois State University; then followed that with being awarded two master's degrees, one in library science from the University of Illinois and the second in mathematics from Illinois State University. She was finally awarded her doctorate in math education from the University of Iowa on Aug. 3, 1990.
Prior to finishing her doctorate program, she taught at Illinois State University from 1979 to 1987. In 1987, she left for the University of Iowa to finish her doctorate in math education. After graduating from the University of Iowa, she came back to Illinois State University in 1990 and continued her professorship until her retirement in 2011.
While at Illinois State University, she served as the undergraduate director for the Math Department. She worked with many student teachers during her tenure at the university, enforcing and advocating that education, and especially math education, is crucial for developing future math teachers. She had an everlasting impact on many of her students.
Beverly also served on the Normal Community High School alumni board for many years.
