George A. Ahrens, age 85 of Oshkosh, died Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2003 at All About Life Rehabilitation Center in Fond du Lac.

He was born on September 26, 1917 in Oshkosh to Fred and Laura Ahrens. George married June M. Meitzen in 1946 at Waukegan, Illinois and she preceded him in death on March 30, 2000.
George was employed as a machinist at Rockwell International for twenty-nine years prior to his retirement. He was an eight year enlisted U.S. Navy Salvage Diver during WWII. George was a very sociable person, enjoying conversation with everyone. He especially enjoyed the quality time he had with his grandsons and their fishing trips.

Survivors include two daughters: , Billie Jo (Lawrence) Antepenko of Largo, Florida; Dawn (Rafael) Ahrens-Dennist of Milwaukee; four grandsons: Thomas Flemming, Lieutenant Commander Michael (Lou) Flemming, Ryan Janke, and Rafael Ahrens-Dennist; two great-grandchildren: (names omitted by contributor) also by one brother and four sisters. George was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 7 p.m. in Seefeld Family of funeral chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Reverend Calvin Reyburn officiating. Interment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Military honors will be conducted by United Veterans Honor Guard.
