James E. Cochran, Sr. 89 of Monroe died at 6:30 am Thursday at Medilodge of Monroe under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 pm Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. He will lie instate 11 am Monday at the First Wesleyan Church with funeral services at 12 pm. Rev. Paul Roemer pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle with military honors by V.F.W Post 1138 Monroe.
Born July 6, 1927 in Monroe he was the son of Roscoe and Lucille (Prater) Cochran. He married Patricia A. Baehr on July 11, 1948 in Monroe. She preceded him in death on October 17, 1967. Then on January 13, 1968 in Monroe he married Ruth D. Smith. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2013.
James was employed by the Ford Motor Company, Woodhaven Stamping Plant, retiring in 1988. He was the former owner and operator of Cochran Tank and Welding Company in Monroe.
He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy from July 2, 1945 to August 24, 1946.
He was a member of the First Wesleyan Church in Monroe, where he also taught Sunday school. He loved tending to his yard and garden and also enjoyed spending time up north at his cottage.
He was a former Boy Scout Leader and volunteer fireman at Frenchtown Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a former President of U.A.W. Local 387.
James is survived by his children James (Chris) Cochran Jr., David (Paula) Cochran, Susan (Dale) Bagby and Jennifer Cochran; daughter-in-law Sharon Cochran; grandchildren Jeremy (Amanda) Cochran, Tiffany Cochran, Josh (Amanda) Cochran, Chad (Becca) Cochran, Patricia (Scott) Lanzenberger, Michael Boylan, Jr. and Andrew Boylan; step grandchildren Corey Mayo, Lance Mayo and Aubrey Mayo; and nine great grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by both wives; son Timothy Cochran; grandson Joseph Cochran,and a sister Vivian Cochran.
