Ruth was born November 6, 1934, to the late Floyd Curtis and Mae Magee Christy, in Allegheny County, PA.
She retired from Syracuse University where she held the positions of Director, Independent Study; Associate Dean, School of Management and Director of the University's Graduate School.
After relocating to Wilmington, her volunteer affiliations included President, Wilmington Symphony Orchestra Board; President, Friends of Public Radio, Inc.; Board member, Chamber Music Society of Wilmington; Elder, First Presbyterian Church; Chair, Coastal Carolina Presbytery, Budget and Finance Committee, The United Way, Quilter's by the Sea Quilt Guild and most recently, she was one of the founding members of the Alliance for a Regional Concert Hall, or ARCH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Rev. K.L. Christy and Col. R.M. Christy and a sister, Thelma C. Lichenfels.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Frank E. Funk; daughters, Janet Christy Johnson and husband James Tremblay and Amy Catherine Sisley M.D.; step-son, Steven Eric Funk; step-daughter, Karen Christine Funk Blocher and a brother, Rev. W.F. Christy.
A memorial service was held at 11am, Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, 125 South 3rd. Street, Wilmington, with Dr. Ernest T. Thompson III officiating. A reception followed the service in Gilmour Hall.
