Joyce Marguerite Raasch Vrana passed away on October 19, 2015, at the age of 93. Joyce was born the only child of Raymond Edward and Florence Reid Raasch on February 8, 1922, in Houston, Texas. She grew up in Lindale Park neighborhood and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School.

In April, 1942 she went to work as a clerk typist for the U.S Corps of Engineers in Houston where she met William Vrana who was working there as a draftsman. Bill stated in his memoirs that he was 'immediately attracted to this girl with her angelic personality and aura of innocence'. They were married on September 28, 1942, had two sons, and lived in Houston until December 1953, when Bill, who had taken a job in 1946 as an exploration geologist with Tennessee Gas and Transmission Company, was asked to set up a new office in Corpus Christi. Joyce and Bill moved to Corpus and spent the rest of their lives there.

Joyce devoted herself to being a homemaker and raising her family. Her family and her friends were her joy. She attended Little League games, sat through school programs, and furnished the boys with countless means of amusing and expressing themselves at home. The family took many vacation trips together, and later she and Bill made many road trips throughout the US and Canada on their own. She was a past member of the Geologists Wives Club, Petrol Club, Charity League, and Lamar Park Garden Club. She specially enjoyed playing bridge regularly with a close circle of long-time friends, and was a lover of books and a voracious reader.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Florence Raasch and husband William Vrana.

She is survived by her sons, Larry and Randy Vrana and daughter-in-law Julie Vrana.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Guadalupe Flores and Grace Lopez for their compassionate and loving care of Joyce during her last few years. At her request a private burial service was held at Seaside Memorial Park.
