Married Nancy Jane Davis May 14, 1851. Seven children born (3 boys and 4 girls). One girl, two boys and his wife preceded him in death.

He later married Eliza J. Butler on September 30, 1896. Two girls born.

He went to the Mexican War and fought at the battle of Buena Vista. He moved his family to Belmont in 1859 and want back to Indiana in 1860, where he enlisted in the War in Co. E. 72 Ind. Vol. Infy. He enlisted from Fountain County, Indiana and served three years. He returned to his farm in Belmont in 1868, and then to Toronto in 1915.

He leaves to mourn his going his wife, and daughters Mrs. Minnie Morrow of Toronto and Mrs. Velma Lucas of Wichita, from his first union, and one son John W. Medearis of Buffalo.
