P. Ivan Akers Retired farmer, 76;P. Ivan Akers, 76, a former Drexel Hill resident, died Wednesday of a heart attack at
UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital in Everett, Pa. Mr. Akers worked for nearly 20 years as a farmer in Maryland and for Liseter JFarms in Delaware County. He then was a maintenance -worker for more than 21 years at Delaware County Christian School. After retiring to Everett in -1991, Mr. Akers took a job at the Agency on Aging, where he .' transported the elderly in Bed-. ford, Huntingdon and Fulton Counties. Born in Clearville, Pa., Mr. Akers graduated from Everett High School in 1946. He was a member of the Pennwood Bible Church in Everett, where he served as a trustee and deacon. He was also a trustee and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Newtown Square after moving to Delaware County with his family in 1955. He enjoyed deer hunting.In addition to his wife of 51 years, Emmagene Davis Akers, Mr. Akers is survived by sons Mahlon, Richard Mark and Joel David; daughter Jocelyn Elizabeth Whitpan; three sisters; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Pennwood Bible Church, 440 Hospital Hill Rd., Everett. Friends may call at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, 22 W. Main St., Everett, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, and at the church one hour before services tomorrow. Burial will be at Shreves Chapel Church Cemetery in Clearville. Mr. Akers served on the board of directors of the cemetery association. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Newtown Township, 3722 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square.
