Charlie began his bicycle career at Don and Tom Sellers’ Bicycle shop in 1939. He then managed the Victory Bike Ship since 1942. He retired from the bicycle business in 2001 after 62 years of faithfully serving the bicycle and modeling needs of the Kokomo community. He was very active in the R/C airplane club in Kokomo for many years. He belonged to the Untied Commercial Travelers of America. Charlie was recognized by WE Care for his support in 1989. He was then awarded the Distinguished Hoosier Award by Governor O’Bannon in November of 2001. Mayor Trobaugh and chief of Police Hackett recognized Charlie for his support of the Kokomo Police Department. In 2004 he was awarded the key to Kokomo by Mayor McKillip. Charlie actively provided bicycles to CAM of Kokomo.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Charlene) Sullivan, Cumming, Georgia; step-son, Robert (Shelia) Donson; step-daughter, Nancy (Robert) Moloch, all of Kokomo; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Howard and Jay Sullivan, sisters, Rachel Herron, Nancy Alice Sullivan, and Margaret Ellison. One sister died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo with Pastors David Leeder and Stan Zurcher officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery.
