Ladd Duryea died Oct. 9, at age 85, after a long battle with Parkinson's.
His parents, Pete and Eunice Duryea predeceased him. Also predeceased by his sister, Glendora Bresley.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with one sister, Marguerite Tvrdik; four nieces; a nephew; and their children.
Ladd was born in Nebraska but after many moves around the country due to his work, he retired to Chattanooga, Tenn., where he lived for many years. He died in hospice there.
Ladd graduated from Comstock High School, went on to graduate from University of Nebraska - Lincoln and then received a Masters from Kansas State.
Throughout his life he remained a Husker football fan. A big fan of John Wayne, he had a "John Wayne" room.
After retirement he kept busy in the Chattanooga community, and became an enthusiastic actor. His participation in acting was something he loved, especially belonging to the "Ripe and Ready" players.
Ladd was always as physically and mentally active as he could be. He donated his body to Vanderbilt University. He also donated money to many charitable causes including both the universities he graduated from.
