After they married in Pennsylvania, his parents moved out west to Indian Territory near the town of Krebs where Pittsburg County, Oklahoma is now located. There they gave birth to Hiram Edward, subsequently moving to Cherokee County, Kansas.

In Kansas Ed married Honora O'Hare at St. Bridget Church, and settled down to raise a family. He was a coal miner.

Ed died between summer 1925 and spring 1930 as he is with his family on the 1925 Kansas State Census on the former and Nora is a widow on the 1930 U.S. Federal Census on the latter.

In 1978, his daughter Lenore wrote to a relative that "My parents and most of the family are buried at St. Bridget Cemetery."
