In Kansas Ed married Honora O'Hare at St. Bridget Church, and settled down to raise a family. He was a coal miner.
Ed died between summer 1925 and spring 1930 as he is with his family on the 1925 Kansas State Census on the former and Nora is a widow on the 1930 U.S. Federal Census on the latter.
In 1978, his daughter Lenore wrote to a relative that "My parents and most of the family are buried at St. Bridget Cemetery."
