He was born in Henry County on January 9, 1926, the son of Tracy and Hettie Morris Port. He resided in the Knightstown area until moving to Hagerstown, 50 years ago. He served with the US Navy during WW II. He was a retired employee of Perfect Circle/ Dana Corp., Hagerstown. Chet was a member of American Legion Post 152, Knightstown, Hagerstown Lodge #49, F&AM, past-president of Hartley Hills Country Club, and a member of Perfect Circle 25 year Club.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 1 son, Sam Port (Jane) of Cambridge City;
3 grandchildren, Lorri Davis and Todd Port (Carrie), both of Richmond, Gretchen Weston (Wade) of Cambridge City; 6 great-grandchildren; a step-brother, William Johnson (Maxine) of Middletown, OH.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Scott Johnson, and by 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, July 18, in Culberson Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown.
