LE GRAND NEWS NOTES, March 30, 1939:
James F. R. Turner, a resident of Le Grand, died in a Merced hospital on March 24 after a short illness. Turner was born in Missouri in 1881 and when 5 years of age came to California. He attended the rural school in eastern Merced county. He was the son of the late Luther Turner and Mrs. Sarah Turner who survives him. The brothers and sisters are Mrs. Louise Eubanks of Stockton, Mrs. Richard B. Bennett of Napa, Cleve Turner, of Long Beach and Charley Brown of Le Grand, a half brother. Three daughters survive. A brother, Nicholas Turner, died two years ago. His wife was Ella Smithers Turner who proceeded him to the grave by three years. Funeral services were held in Merced at Ivers & Alcorn chapel at 2 o'clock Monday. Interment was made in the Turner-Helm cemetery.
