Mrs. Mary Augusta Mason
Mrs. Mary Augusta Mason, widow of Leonard R. Mason, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Bates, lower Main Street, after several weeks of failing health.
She was born in Alton, February 20, 1853, the daughter of Hamlin and Mary Means Walton. After her marriage to Mr. Mason they moved to Corinna where he died in 1917, she remaining there until 1922 when she came to Dexter to live with her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bates.
Mrs. Mason had a keen mind for the appreciation of the beauty of life and was always interested in every good cause, being the happiest when she could be of service to others. A sparkling disposition and her gentle nature endeared her to a large circle of friends.
Surviving besides the daughter, is a sister, Mrs. Nina Brown of Bangor, also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. K. R. Hutchinson of the First Universalist church officiating. The bearers were Cecil Brown, Elwin Crosby, Harry Merrill and Ira Merrill. There were many beautiful flowers. Interment will be in the Higgins cemetery in Corinna.
Among those from out of town, attending the services were Mrs. Nina Brown, Mrs. Webster Brown, and Miss Pearle Brown of Bangor; Mrs. Arthur Chase, Dover-Foxcroft; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Brown, Mrs. Frank Day of Corinna; Mrs. Rose Tibbetts of Orono; Frank Mason and Mrs. Arthur Bowman of St. Albans.
