Wesley Copeland was the fifth child (of 11) of Abner Copeland (1790-1874), a native of North Carolina who came to the Ohio Territory in the late 1810's, and his wife Margaret (Morgan) Copeland (1797-1876).

Wesley married Mary Ann Perkins (1825-1916), daughter of Andrews Perkins (1786-1853), in Allen Township, Union County, Ohio on April 8, 1847. Their union produced 8 children.

This contributor is a direct descendant of Wesley's father-in-law Andrews Perkins (1786-1853) and his brother-in-law Lewis Young Perkins (1818-1892)
