Chester C. Batchelder, 88, of 7 Gilbert Lane in Dennis Port, died in Hyannis. Born in Lowell and educated in the Lowell school system, he lived in Braintree and worked as a retail salesman and buyer for various department stores prior to retiring to the Cape in 1960. His employers included Filene's, Jordan's, Gilchrist's and Raymond's, all in Boston. Mr. Batchelder belonged to the Yarmouth Grange and the First Congregational Church ot Harwich, as well as the Delta Lodge AF & AM in Braintree. He served as a corporal in the 55th artillery of the U.S. Army during World War One, and belonged to Cape Cod Barracks No. 201 of World War One veterans.
