A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late, W.R. "Bill" and Annette Bryson Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bruce James; and two sisters, Betty Anderson and Neil Ann Ivester.
She was survived by one daughter, Sherry James of Candler; one son, Eugene "Frosty" Grogan and his wife, Karen, of Canton; three grandchildren, Hollie Rathbone and her husband, Chris, Shannan Birmingham and friend, Danny Washburn, and Shane James and his wife, Julie; two great-grandchildren, Sherrill Rathbone, and Justin James and; his wife, Amanda; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ophelia James.
A graveside service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Bon-A-Venture on Old Clyde Road with the Reverend Paul Brown officiating. Wells Funeral Home of Canton, N.C. assisted the family.
