Alyce was born on a farm south of Osceola to D. Everett and Eda (Wieseman) Powell. She attended country school and graduated from Osceola High school in 1940.
On October 11, 1941 she was united in marriage to Gerald M. Mentink in Osceola. To this union six children were born. Alyce helped on the farm where they raised cattle, hogs and registered Shetland ponies. She also worked at the Bit of Sweden restaurant and as a cook at the Stromsburg High school until she retired in 1992.
She enjoyed traveling, taking many trips with family and crocheting. She enjoyed attending all the grandkids' and great grandkids' events and rarely missed.
She was baptized and was a member of Green's Chapel until its closing. She later joined St. Paul Lutheran church of Osceola.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, one son Jerry Lee, parents, two sons-in-law Jerry Klein and Gaylord Dose, and two sisters Emagene Olson and Leah Lenard.
