Enlisted on 7/23/1861 at Pine Grove, MI as a Private.
On 9/4/1861 he mustered into "G" Co. MI 11th Infantry
He was Mustered Out on 9/30/1864 at Sturgis, MI

He applied for a pension on 2/7/1885 application # 531,816

Mr. Joseph Annis, an old soldier, died at his residence in this village, May 17, aged 67 years. He leaves a widow and several children. Brief services were held at the house at noon Sunday conducted by Rev. Lamport. The G. A. R., and W. R. C. were in attendance. The remains were then taken to his old home at Leetsville, for the funeral and burial, with services by Rev. Hill of Kalkaska.

Cemetery information:
Located four miles north of Kalkaska on US-131, then west on Wood road. The cemetery is 1/8th of a mile on the south side of the road. This cemetery was originally called the Leetsville cemetery, but the name was changed to Maple Grove in 1903.
