Imogene B. Posey, 85, died September 2, 2009 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick.


She was born January 13, 1924 in Thomasville, NC to William P. and Nanny Perdue Beck.


She was raised in Thomasville and graduated from Thomasville High School, class of 1942. She studied nursing at City Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, and graduated in 1945 as a Registered Nurse. She was employed at City Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, and moved in 1946 to Washington, D.C. where she worked as an R.N. at Providence Hospital.


She met her future husband, Walter W. Posey, when he was a patient at Providence, and they married January 17, 1947. They lived in Upper Marlboro, MD until moving to Huntingtown in 1965.


She was employed as the first Director of Nursing at Calvert County Nursing Center, where she worked for 30 years, retiring in 1999.Mr. Posey died April 21, 1987, and Imogene relocated to North Carolina from 2000 until 2005, when she returned to live in Prince Frederick at Calvert Pines.


She was had an outgoing personality, and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, crocheting, and she also loved spending time with her grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and three sisters.


She is survived by daughters Karen W. Posey of Annapolis and Sharon W. Carter and husband Allen of Berlin, MD, sons Gilbert B. Posey and wife Cheryl of Hernando, FL and Mark A. Posey of NY, NY. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one step-granddaughter, three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandsons, and a sister Willa Mae Lohr of Ashville, NC.
