Joseph, my gg grandfather, married Mary Ann Clary 29 May 1834 in Madison Co. Alabama. The top portion of his tombstone which reads "MY HUSBAND" is broken off and is on the ground near his grave. I am making arrangements to have it repaired.

Joseph R. Brown, a native of east Tennessee, was born May 10, 1811. He was a tailor by trade and worked at that profession about twelve years. He was married in Madison County Alabama and while in that state he was engaged in these different occupations: tailoring, merchandising and farming. In 1850 he immigrated to Tennessee, and engaged in the merchandise business at Unionville and continued there several years. He then engaged in the saw-mill business, but at the same time continuing his farming interests, and was engaged in the latter business at the time of his death. He was an exemplary member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. To Joseph and his wife Mary Ann were born thirteen children seven of whom are dead. Those living are Nancy Jane, William Clary, Lucinda Caroline, James P., Thomas D., and Joseph E. His son Thomas is living with his mother and is superintending the farm. He is a local minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
