RACINE – John N. Becker, 78, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center.

John was born in Racine, January 19, 1931, son of the late Bernard T. and Margaret (nee: Haas) Becker. On June 18, 1966 at St. Patrick Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Mary Jo DeMatthew (nee: Beetcher). A graduate of St. Catherine's High School 'Class of 1949' John served in the United States Army in Panama. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a longtime employee of Schultz Savo Food Stores. What John enjoyed most in life was watching and encouraging his daughter Patti as she trained and competed in equestrian events. John also enjoyed playing golf and cards with his friends.

John is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Becker; his children, Patricia Becker, Jeffery (Leneya) DeMatthew, Carol (Steve) Rawlinko, Daniel (Amy) DeMatthew, Barbara DeMatthew (Tim Pawzun), James (Kathy) DeMatthew; seven grandchildren, Joseph, Kathryn, Jamie, Eleanor, Nicholas, Rebecca, and Dana DeMatthew; sister and brothers, Helen (Richard) Malzahn, Robert (Patricia) Becker, Jerome (Gail) Becker; sisters-in-law, Nancy Becker, Carol Samsa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Thomas, Bernard 'Buddy', Dennis; and his sister, Betty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1100 Erie Street, Friday, April 3, 2009, 10 a.m. with Rev. Ricardo Martin officiating. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Catherine's High School or to St. Patrick Catholic Church have been suggested. Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, 803 Main Street.
