Viola M. (Micky) Adams, 80, of Elkader died Sunday evening, August 11, 2002, at Central Community Hospital following a brief illness. Her body was donated for medical research at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

She was born April 28, 1922, in Elkader, Iowa, daughter of Otto and Pauline (Staub) Doeppke-Tangeman. She attended Elkader High School.

She was united in marriage to Vernon Knapp at Elkader in 1944. She later married Mike Adams at West Union in 1959. Micky worked as a nurse for Dr. Hommel for a time, and for Dr. Powell from 1962 until 1984. In 1981 she moved into the apartment at the Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader. She resided there, worked as a receptionist and assisted the funeral directors right up until she became ill a few weeks ago. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Elkader, where at one time she served on the council.

She is survived by her son, Ed Knapp of Elkader; her niece, Teddy (Dick) Neis of Strawberry Point; two great-nieces, Julie Kintzle of Earlville and Kathy Shaw of Strawberry Point; a great-nephew, Eric Neis of Los Angeles, Calif.; three great great nieces and two great great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Otto Doeppke Jr., and her husband Mike in 1979.
