Funeral services for SP5 Charles Gary Adams, 20, foster son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Diers, will be held Friday afternoon, May 23, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Clayton Center. The Rev. V. G. Sorenson, pastor, will officiate. Friends may call at Witt's Funeral Home in Elkader until Friday morning.
The young soldier was killed in an auto accident near Hamptom, VA., last Saturday afternoon. He had been stationed at Fort Eustis, Va.
A son of Walter L Adams, Cedar Rapids, Charles came to the Vernon Diers farm near Clayton Center, as a youngster, 7 1/2 years ago. He attended school at Garnavillo and graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1967. In July 1967 Charles joined the army and served a term in Vietnam. As a specialist four he was cited for meritorious services in June 1968 in operations supporting aerial missions in Vietnam. Charles returned to the United States on March 29 this year. After landing back in the U.S., he was given a leave to visit his foster parents, who had by this time moved to their new home in Elkader. His leave ended April 21 and he left here to return to a teaching assignment at Fort Eustis, Va.
