Virginia Anne Jenkins Dowden, 86, of Boise passed away peacefully on October 9, 2015, in Weiser at the local nursing home.

Virginia was born October 18, 1928 in Culver City, California to Jessie and Russell Jenkins. She grew up in Los Angeles, where she spent most of her free time at the local library. Loving music as much as she did books, Virginia paid a local teenager 50 cents to learn to play piano. Virginia studied Education for 2 years at Pasadena City College. While attending college, she met a handsome and charming man by the name of George Dowden in her History of European Civilization class. George and Virginia went together for a year before their marriage on December 2, 1951. Three wonderful children completed the Dowden family; Valerie, George, & Brad. While raising their young family, George and Virginia felt a need to go to church. They were greeted one day by missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints knocking on their door, and felt this was an answer to their prayers. Virginia served faithfully in the church, including serving as the Relief Society President four different times. She served her church and community whole-heartedly while being soccer mom, band mom, foster mom, and many other roles during her life. George and Virginia were able to travel and meet people from all over the globe while George worked in the pharmaceutical sales business. Virginia also taught piano for many years, and was well loved by those whom she taught. George and Virginia were married for 49 ½ years when George passed away suddenly in May of 1996. Virginia spent her remaining time on earth being a devoted mom, grandma (Grams), and great-grandma as well as working on family history.

She was preceded in death by her husband George as well as her son Brad. She is survived by her daughter Valerie (Bob) Thomason of Weiser, her son George (Michelle) Dowden of San Diego, CA, and daughter-in-law Heidi Hansen Dowden of Monterey, CA. She is loved by 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and many other close family and friends.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 24th, 2015 at the LDS Church located at 701 South Curtis Road in Boise. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Weiser, Idaho.
