Williard J. "Bill" Church, 80, of Grace Chapel, died Oct. 23, 1999, at the residence of a brother after a period of declining health.

Born Oct. 21, 1919 in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Gonnie Church and Nora Whitener Church Adams.

He was retired from Frame Company Inc. and Hickory Chair as a supervisor.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, he received the Eamet Campaign Medal with five bronze stars and the Victory Medal.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dezola Davis Church; his second wife, Artie Irene Kirby Church; two brothers, Ted Adams and Troy Whitener; stepfather, Spencer Adams; and two stepsons, Johnny Bunton and Caroll Isenhour.

Survivors include two stepsons, Edward Isenhour of Granite Falls and Leo Isenhour of Valdese; two stepdaughters, Shirley Stafford of Hickory and Sue Ellen Phillips of Winston-Salem; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Norene Adams of Hildebran and Ned Adams of George Hildebran; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Adrian Rink and Betty and Jerry Ballard of Hickory, Mathalda and David Hartness of Newton and Elizabeth and Robert Ching of Charleston, S.C.; and a number of nephews, nieces and stepgrandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Hickory Funeral Home. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
