Art was born February 17, 1923, in Brush Creek, Tennessee to Harry and Bessie (Allen) Thomason. He resided in Scofield, Utah, Alamosa, Colorado, Ogden, Utah and La Grande, Oregon. He graduated from Alamosa High School where he participated in football and baseball. He served our country while in the Army during World War II in England, France and Germany from 1944 – 1946. He married a coal miner's daughter, Mary Mildred Anderson from Scofield, Utah on April 1, 1944.
Art worked as a carman and then Derrick and Car Foreman for the DRGW and Union Pacific Railroads. He enjoyed traveling and camping with the Happy Ramblers RV group, and spending the winters in Yuma, Arizona. He was a Mason.
Art is survived by his wife, Mildred; son, Arthur Thomason, Jr. and his wife Becky of Syracuse, Utah; daughters, Mary Peterson and her husband Martin of Ogden, Utah and Debbie Nichols and her husband Jeff of La Grande, Oregon; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Bessie; brother, Bill Thomason; sister, Mary Francis Baker and son-in-law David Aeschlimann.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 4th Street, La Grande OR 97850.
