Winnie Allen was born Aug 20, 1816 in Cocke Co. TN, the daughter of Abraham Allen and an unknown first wife who died soon after Winnie's birth. Winnie in her childhood moved to Ray Co. Missouri, and then back to Cocke Co. She married Martin Lewis in the 1830's and they lived near the Wilton Springs/English Mt. area south of Newport. The family decided to move to Collin Co. Texas in 1867, moving to a place where a number of their Tennessee neighbors had moved before. Winnie and Martin had a number of children and settled down in the Rhea Mills area, northwest of McKinney. Winnie and Martin made a will four days before her death, which happened July 20, 1881. Winnie shares the same stone with Martin on the far southwest side of the Walnut Grove cemetery toward the back side of the cemetery on the southwest edge near the gate to the road. The Walnut Grove location is on Custer Road nine miles west and two north of McKinney, TX. There are a number of other Lewis relatives and surname families in the cemetery which also date back to Cocke Co. Tennessse.
Winnie's father's picture (Abraham Allen) is in Ray Co. MO, but I haven't been able to find her birth mother. Winnie's mother died young, and Abraham married a 2nd time to a woman possibly named Elizabeth that was born in 1805. Since Winnie was born in 1816, this person would be Abraham's second wife. Winnie's paternal grandmother (Sitchie Pitman Clevenger) is up in the Clevenger Cemetery in Cocke Co. TN for those who want to see it on findagrave.com. Sitchie Pitman Clevenger died in 1847 in Cocke Co. TN.
