Born in Cabarrus County on January 1, 1940, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Herbert Archie Drye and Eva Trexler Drye. She was educated in the Cabarrus County Schools.
Being a devoted and nurturing wife, mother and homemaker was her primary calling in life. In her later years she provided loving care and assistance to elders. Eleanor was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
She was never one to complain, have self pity or question the "whys" of life. She was a shining example of strength and faith. Eleanor's quiet and unassuming nature and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor is preceded in death by sisters, Geraldine Loretta Drye, Marjorie (Drye) Almond and Hilda (Drye) Steele; and a brother, Alvin B. Drye, Sr.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of over 57 years, Thurman Efird of Gold Hill; daughters, Bonnie Vaughn and husband Bill of Gold Hill; and Tina (Efird) Jahnke and husband Greg of Salisbury, North Carolina; grandchildren, Deven and Skylar Jahnke; sisters, Norma Jean Goodman, Vetra Culp and husband John, Carolyn McDonald and husband Joel, Faye Safrit and husband Bob, Lois Fortune and Steve; and brother, Harold Wayne Drye.
There will be a service celebrating Eleanor's life on Sunday, Oct. 11th at 4:30 pm at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
