SAMUEL H. BOWMAN DIES IN WOODSTOCK
Samuel H. Bowman, of 311 Ingersoll Avenue, and well known to many in Ingersoll, passed away at Woodstock General Hospital on Saturday, December 21st. Born in North Dorchester Township, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Bowman who for many years were esteemed Ingersoll residents, Mr. Bowman was in his 66th years. He was one of the original members of the First Battalion in the First World War and served overseas from 1914 to 1919, returning to Canada with the Battalion, and was later a member of the Veterans' Guard from 1940 to 1944. For the past 2 years he had been an attendant at the Ontario Hospital, Woodstock. He was a member of Central United Church, Woodstock Branch of the Canadian Legion and the Civil Service Association. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, (formerly Margaret E. Ramsay); one sister, Mrs. H. C. Wheeler, R.R.4, Ingersoll; three brothers, Stanley, and Ralph, Ingersoll and Frank of Woodstock. There are also five grandchildren. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, December 24th, from the F.E. Rowell Funeral Home, where service was conducted at 2 o'clock, by Rev. J. V. McNeely of Central United church. Temporary entombment was made in the Ingersoll Mausoleum. - Ingersoll Tribune, Jan 2, 1958
