Walter Philip Gentry was born on October 21, 1873 in Pulaski, Missouri, the son of William "Tazewell" Gentry (1812–1878) and his 2nd wife Sarah Ann (Flowers) (Tate) Gentry (1838–1889). [NOTE: Although his Death Certificate has his middle name as Phillip, on his World War I Draft Registration Card, he signed his name as Walter Philip Gentry.]
He was married on October 29, 1898 in Dickson, Tennessee to Eudora U "Dora" Palmore (1874-1940), the daughter of Frederick A W Palmore ca 1838– ) and Sarah A "Sallie" (Wright) Palmore (ca 1851– ).
Living in Bon Aqua, Tennessee, Walter was 73 years old and a widower when he passed away at home on August 20, 1947. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
