Sarah Bonner Brewer Warren passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Walter Ernest and Mary Foxwell Brewer. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Claude S. Warren Jr.; two brothers, Ed and Walter Henry Brewer; one sister, Anne Stauffer; and two great-grandchildren, Warren and Elizabeth Shearin.

Sarah is survived by her "girls," Sandra Shearin (John), Claudia Johnson (JT), Linda Rowland (Veren), Mary Shearin and Dianne (Dee Dee) Isles. She was "Granny" to 11 grandchildren, Johnny Shearin (Karen), David Shearin (Michelle), Sharon Wood (Edward), Cari De Vous (Tim), Kaye Clemmons (Tim), Jr Rowland (Sandra), Caroline Fleming (Franklin), Kevin Shearin (Crystal), Jenna Thomas (Mark), Bryan Isles (Angie) and Brian Johnson (Debbie) and 25 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Caroline Kastleburg (Jim), Alice Dickens (Mahlon) and Mary Ladd (Zack); brother-in-law, George Warren, and sister-in-law, Faye Gay; special niece, Martha Denton; and numerous other nieces and nephews; and her adopted sixth daughter and son, Martha and Bob Hayes; and special friend, Lou Val Robertson.

Birthdays were important to her and she knew from memory every family member, spouse and most friends' birthdays, always remembering each with a card.

Born in Halifax County, Sarah grew up in the country just outside Littleton. She graduated from Aurelian Springs School just prior to World War II.

With the prospect of a career that would both be an opportunity to contribute to the war effort and help her family financially, she headed to East Carolina College in Greenville, to be trained to work in the aviation industry. Upon completion of the training she "shipped out" to Baltimore, where she obtained a job working for Glenn L. Martin Aviation, who produced many important aircraft for the defense of our country and its allies during World War II. From the stories she told, there were hard times, however, she loved her time there and made life-long friends.

Loving and caring for family and others was always a main priority for her. In a letter to her "girls" she left what we believe to be her legacy, "Keep loving each other as I have loved you."

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 at Bear Swamp Baptist Church, 15227, N.C. Highway 48, Littleton, NC 27850. The family will receive friends after the service on Saturday and at her home in Littleton at other times.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bear Swamp Baptist Church, Littleton, NC 27850 or Home Health and Hospice of Halifax, 220 Smith Church Road, Bldg. C, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

Special thanks from the family go out to Margaret Hedgepeth, Tammy Rodwell, Ann and Gaynelle, for the care and attention shown to Mom during her illness.
