He served in the Navy for four years, where he was stationed on a carrier mainly in the Mediterranean Sea, and when he returned he entered the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and earned a degree in physics and electrical engineering. He spent his career in engineering jobs traveling in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. He retired in 2009. He and his family lived the last 15 years on a farm near Cabot.
He was predeceased by his parents Lester and Lyda Belle Kersey. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra Carol Whaley Kersey; a son, John Michael Kersey of Conway; a daughter, Janet Michelle Cheshire (Cody); three grandsons, Aspen Dreher, Gage Dreher and Charlie Cheshire; a granddaughter, Haven Dreher, all of Kansas City; two sisters, Elaine Dumas (Ernest) of Little Rock and Jane Welch (Larry) of North Little Rock; three brothers, Joe Kersey (Jean) of North Little Rock, James Kersey (Margaret) of Little Rock and Jeff Kersey of Sherwood.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., NLR, AR 72114. Memorials may be made to the VA Hospice at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock
