By 1940 the family had moved to the Riverside area of Fort Worth, Texas and Wendall's widowed maternal grandmother, Serena Belle (Ryan) Wray of Chickasaw Indian heritage, moved with them and lived with them there until her death in 1964.
Wendall graduated from Carter Riverside High School in Fort Worth in 1946, and in 1950 graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in commercial art. He worked in that field for several years and also served in the U. S. Navy Reserves for 11 years. Wendall eventually joined his father as a self-employed accountant and made that a career. He married Doretta in 1953 at Riverside Baptist Church, where he was a member, and had his family in Fort Worth, Texas. They later moved to Hurst, Texas.
Like his mother, Wendall loved to play golf. He also was adventurous and traveled with his wife to many countries in his retirement years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Blake O'Neal and survived by his wife of 62 years, Doretta; children, Cheri and Lloyd Sizemore, Cindy O'Neal, and Kevin and Lisa Brown, as well as grandchildren, Melanie and Josh Radde, Matthew and Chanel Sizemore, Michael Sizemore, Mason Sizemore, Meaghan and David Hildinger, and Mallory Brown; great-granddaughter, Evie Sizemore; brother-in-law, Don Wilson; and many cousins and friends.
Wendall's memorial service was held October 8, 2015 at North Richland Hills Baptist Church.
