Gladys was valedictorian of her high school graduating class. Her best friend and future sister-in-law, Vera (Fischbach) Swanson, was salutatorian in the same class. Gladys married Lloyd K. Davis on September 21, 1940, in Dundee. Gladys worked for the Elgin National Watch Factory and was a cook for the Cortland Grade School cafeteria and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority at Northern Illinois University.
She was a mother and a homemaker, and was active in the Cortland PTA. She was a member of the Cortland United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, and she taught Sunday school. She was a member of T.O.P.S., K.O.P.S. and 50 Plus Club, and practiced yoga for many years. She enjoyed traveling with Lloyd, especially to Florida. She was an avid reader, solved many crossword puzzles and loved playing cards.
She is survived by four children, Larry (JoAnn) Davis of DeKalb, Fred (Marie) Davis of Hollywood, Florida., Daniel (Jan) Davis of Genoa and Nancy (Mike Falco) Davis of Sycamore; 13 grandchildren, Penny (Rolf) Hansen, Candy (Dick) Anderson, Joni Clark, Jon (Julianna) Davis Jr., Danielle Davis, Paul Davis, Julianna (Tony) Ladas, Jamie Davis, Stacie (Pat) Pendleton, Heather (Brian) Jackson, Matthew (Megan) Davis, and Christopher and Janessa Davis-Falco; 16 great-grandchildren, Jan Erik and Kristian Hansen, Nicole (Nick) Baker, Brittany Palmer, Shane and Jesse Clark, Nicholas, Brennan and Kaden Ladas, Trevor and Jersey Davis, Kierstin Pendleton, Isabella, Finley and Cecelia Jackson, and Sophia Davis; three great-great-grandchildren, Haylee and Jacob Baker and Haydin Palmer; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Davis; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jon; a grandson, Patrick; her parents; and four siblings, Robert Swanson, Harold Swanson, Beatrice Price and Frank Swanson. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with the Rev. Sandy Graber officiating. Interment of her cremains was at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
