OBITUARY:
JERRY J. NADVED
MASON CITY - Jerry J. Nedved, 74, of 252 20th St. S.E., died Monday (April 29, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E. with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, where members of Mason City Veterans Memorial Association will conduct full military honors.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapels, 126 Third St. N.E. with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in his memory.
Jerry was born Jan. 10, 1928, at Britt, a son of Stanley and Mary (Bastyr) Nedved. He married Marian Clemons on Sept. 18, 1956, at Clear Lake.
Jerry attended rural school at Duncan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, as a member of the 35th Infantry. Following his discharge, he was employed in the printing industry and retired from the Mason City School district in 1993.
Jerry was an avid musician. He held membership in the former Mason City Federation of Musicians, Local 230. He was nominated in 1975 to the 122-member College of Electors of the International Polka Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Chicago, Ill., serving until 1995. In recent years, Jerry played for various groups in the surrounding area.
He especially enjoyed attending auctions and restoring various items.
His other memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Marian, of Mason City; three daughters, Janet Nedved, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kathryn Burghart and her husband, William, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Laura Nedved, of Plymouth, Minn.; two sons, Karl Nedved and his wife, Kandice, of Mason City, and Jim Nedved and his wife Jana, of Glendale, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Laura, Robert, Christopher, Matthew, Benjamin, Jordan, Reid, Alexandra, Katrina, and Natasha; three sisters, Blanche Habermaier and her husband, George, of St. Paul, Minn, Adeline Kral and her husband, Martin, of Thompson, and Sally Bauer and her husband, Bill, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; three brothers, Robert Nedved and his wife, Phyllis, of Britt, Louis Nedved and his wife, Barbara, of Garner, and Edward Nedved and his wife, Kitty, of Sussex, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
