DeWayne V. Weers April 2, 1926-Sept. 17, 2015, 89, passed away in Laguna Hills, California. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, son of Gladys and Fred Weers. Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17, and served in 3 wars, retiring on May 31, 1969 after 23 years of active duty. He married Rita Van Smith on February 11, 1961 and resided n Tacoma (Lakewood), Washington where he was a member of the Mason organization. After retiring from the Army, Wayne pursued a teaching career for many years at Clover Park Vocational Institute. After the death of Rita in 1999, Wayne moved to Laguna Woods, California where he lived until his passing. He is survived by 2 brothers, Ralph (Laguna Woods, CA) and William (Cedar Rapids, Iowa); and 1 sister, Virginia Dahn (Maurice) (Laguna Woods, CA). He leaves many loving nieces and nephews and Rita's loving children and grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Park, Lakewood, Washington. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
